Seasons

 Seasons.

Autumns coming

The trees know

They get their leaves ready to blow

---------------------------------------------------------Winters coming

The clouds know

They get ready to drop some snow

---------------------------------------------------------Springs coming

The flowers know

They start to bloom and grow

--------------------------------------------------------Summers coming

The girl knows

She gets her towel ready to doze.

In the beginning of haka.

 In the beginning of haka.

By:Olive

There are a lot of questions people ask and there all about the haka:

  • How did it start?

  • What's the point in learning the haka?

  • Why was it important?

  • And why were women and/or girls not allowed to do the haka?

Well there are alot of simple answers to all those questions and I'm going to give them to you in the story. And by time you're finished reading this book you definitely like the haka more than you do now. (especially if you hate the haka and think it’s a nuisance!)

How the haka started:

In the beginning it was used by the maori as a war dance. It was performed on the battlefield for two reasons:

  1. Was to scare and frighten their opponents to make them think that they're going against some strong opponents.

  2. The maori would use intense facial expressions like wide open eyes and pukana at the end (Pukana-poking tongue out)

Now there are girls/women in the haka too. But back in the day:

  1. Women and girls weren’t allowed to do stuff like the haka!

  2. Girls/women weren’t allowed to go to war either!

Why is haka important?

It is important because it was quite traditional to the maori and being kiwis we need to keep at least some of the maori roll with us in New Zealand. Help us on maori language week, keep maori alive!

Why weren’t women allowed to go to war?

One of the main reasons why women couldn’t contribute in some things was because of the need for separate beds, and the worry of women being present in sexual crimes. I know, It is really quite unfair to girls and women but that is how it was.

Discovery Inquiry masks Olive Hatchard.

This is the Discovery slide that I did. Have fun reading it! :)

Discovery Topic: mask.

This is me and Sophie. I am the one on the right and Sophie is the one on the right. And I know what your thinking, what are they wearing!! Well those are masks. We made masks for this years topic: Discovery! I made this mask because I was inspired by the Italians and there cool looking masks. To make the mask I used cardboard, black paint, silver and gold glitter, hot glue, pink material and PVA glue. I did the details because I saw what all the other mask designs were and I used them by putting them in different places of my mask to make it look cool! I hope you like my mask!
Do you think I need to make any changes?

The move.

The move.
By: Olive Hatchard

Today was a busy day for the howlet-
(Howl-et) Family.
They were moving houses tomorrow!
TOMORROW! Let’s start from the
beginning though.
This morning is the day I get to
sleep in! Every Saturday I sleep in till about
9:30 But… Today I woke up at 7:30! There
was this big truck that had pulled up next to
the next door neighbour's house. It was a
moving truck! It was blue with a mustard
coloured trailer and the trailer had a picture
of this person from a cartoon I like to watch
called “super hero gang!” His name is
klungeo-(klung-je-o) Next to klungeo was a
speech bubble and klungeo was saying
“Lets move that for you!” As soon as that
moving truck arrived all of the next door
neighbors rushed out of their wonky
mustered house with a whole heap of
suitcases full of luggage and put them all
in the truck. The next day they left for
their new house.
Few I'm glad I'm not them!
A few days later:
The howlet family has now unpacked their
luggage now and Zow-eeeee! Their house
looks amazing! On the outside it is brown
and it has a roof of orangy-brown tiles like
the colour of a brick. If you are standing
at the front of the house off to the very
left of the roof there is a small brick
chimney with a perimeter of 2 bricks by 2.
At the front in the middle there is a small
door that is about 5 foot high and 2 feet
wide with glass at the top to see through:

To see If anyone is home or to see who is
at the door. The door has a very nice brown
colour like the colour of cardboard when it
is dry. On the left of the door about 60cm
away (2 feet) there is this little window
that is 30cm across and 30cm up. It is in
a shape of a square and it is so clean and
so clear to see through that it looks as if
they have cleand it every single day!

To be continued.........
